Selah holds off Ephrata Tigers

EPHRATA — Despite clawing their way to an early 4-0 start Tuesday night, the Ephrata Tigers wrestling team couldn’t hold off Selah and the Vikings won the Central Washington Athletic Conference match 46-25.

Tuesday night’s match started at 160 pounds and the Tigers got off to a fast start when junior Chris Davidson earned a 12-2 major decision over Selah’s Tyler Noble to give Ephrata the 4-0 advantage.

The Vikings responded in the next two matches when Selah’s Willie Hays pinned Ephrata junior Robert Motzkus at 171 pounds and Selah’s Ryan Depaz pinned Ephrata  sophomore Curtis Treiber at 189 pounds.

Ephrata got back on track at 215 pounds when sophomore Deion Ducksworth earned a 6-0 decision over Jake Lunceford to cut the Selah advantage to 12-7.

The Vikings caged the Tigers in the three matches following Ducksworth’s decision. The Tigers fell at 285 pounds when Richie Rodriguez pinned freshman Mitchell Brown of Ephrata.

Ephrata forfeited the match at 103 pounds before Selah’s Levi Needles pinned Ephrata sophomore Tyler Childs.

Junior Anthony Bush helped the Tigers claw their way back at 119 pounds by earning a 6-1 decision over his Selah opponent.

Selah would go on to win three of the next five matches before Ephrata senior Quinton Hendrickson pinned Selah’s Zach Bails in 2:49 to give the Tigers a victory in the final match of the night.
