QUINCY — The Quincy Lady Jackrabbits volleyball team will enter the 2009 fall season with new leadership in the form of newly appointed head coach Pam Young.

Young, a 1982 graduate of Quincy High School, will take over a Lady Jackrabbits program that fell to 0-13 in Central Washington Athletic Conference play and finished 0-15 overall.

Young said she is determined to turn the Lady Jackrabbits volleyball program around.

“I want to see us win more volleyball games,” she said. “I want to see us perceived as a more competitive threat to teams. It is pretty simple. We can start to build something people have a different perception of with the program.”

Young, who is guiding the Lady Jackrabbits through the first summer workouts of her head coaching era, said she is anxious to see her team develop throughout the offseason.

“I have summer workouts with them,” she said. “I am trying to raise the bar of expectations and the mentality to have a competitive volleyball program. (We) need to increase (our) skills and knowledge.”

Young is taking over a program which she helped lead to the school’s first state appearance at the 1981 state volleyball tournament and she is ready to take over the Lady Jackrabbits program.

“I am excited but overwhelmed,” she said. “I am just trying to bring a little different attitude and expectations to the program.”
