MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake junior Matea Frensdorf will make her way to Fallon, Nev., over the weekend to participate in the 24th annual Silver State International Rodeo (SSIR).

The SSIR is open to contestants who finish fifth through 10th in their state or province finals during the year. Frensdorf finished sixth in barrel racing and ninth in pole bending qualifying.

Frensdorf will compete in the barrel racing and pole bending events at the SSIR.

The SSIR competition will begin July 4 and conclude July 9 and Frensdorf said she is anxious to compete at the 24th annual SSIR.

“(I am) pretty excited,” she said.

After competing at the SSIR, Frensdorf will train in Utah before traveling to Farmington, N.M., to participate in the 61st annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the girls cutting competition.

Frensdorf finished second in the girls cutting event at the Washington State High School Rodeo Association (WSHSRA) championships last month and she is encouraged by her runner-up performance.

“I was second in Washington in an event that I am still learning,” she said of her cutting finish. “The girl who is our state champion is also the national champion. That really inspires me and tells me that this is something I could be good at.”

Frensdorf will make her first-ever trip to the NHSFR and she is anxious to completing her first run.

“This is my first time, so that is pretty exciting,” she said. “I will probably be pretty nervous. I will be looking forward to getting that first one out of the way.”
