MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Manta Rays swim team will host the Sizzlin’ Summer Swim Classic Friday. Saturday, and Sunday at the Moses Lake Family Aquatic Center.
The Siszzlin’ Summer Swim Classic is a senior sectional and Inland Empire Swimming Championship long-course qualifier and Manta Rays head coach Steve Witcher said he expects the invitational to be competitive.
“We have 480 swimmers from Canada and all around the northwest,” he said. “The main objective is to beef up the competition. We have a lot of great swimmers and a lot of great teams.”
The Moses Lake Manta Rays will have approximately 40 swimmers compete this weekend and Witcher is confident his team will perform well.
“We have 41 swimmers,” he said. “It should be exciting for all of us. We are serving (the invitational) as a late-season qualifier for the championship meets coming up.”
The Sizzlin’ Summer Swim Classic begins Friday night at 5:30 p.m. with the 9-to-12 year old 200 individual medley. The invitational will conclude Sunday afternoon with the 13-and-over 800 freestyle.
With Moses Lake and the Manta Rays swim club hosting the Sizzlin’ Summer Swim Classic this weekend, Witcher said he is happy to have the support of the community.
“It should be exciting for all of us,” he said. “We have a lot of great sponsors who have stepped up and we like to see that. We have had a great year. The numbers have grown and the quality of swimmers has improved.”
