MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Economic Development Council (EDC) will host the ninth annual Duel in the Desert golf tournament Friday at the Moses Lake Golf Club.

The annual golf tournament is held each year to help raise funds for the Grant County EDC, said EDC Manager of Communications and Research John Smith.

“It’s our annual fund-raiser and it is our only fund-raiser of the year,” he said.

Golfers and sponsors from throughout Grant County will gather at the Moses Lake Golf Club Friday to help support the EDC.

The EDC was formed in 1991 and is a non-profit organization dedicated to solving economic problems within the Grant County community, Smith said.

“The purpose (of the EDC) is to work with local business and (other) businesses in the area bringing in new jobs,” he said.

More than 100 golfers will congregate at the Moses Lake Golf Club Friday and Smith said the EDC fund-raiser is an important event.

“It’s great,” he said. “It’s one of the biggest events of the year if you consider the tournament and the party afterwords.”

The Duel in the Desert tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. and consists of four-person teams comprised of tournament sponsors. Sponsorships for the EDC’s tournament range from $600 to $5,000.

Drink cart and closest-to-the-pin sponsorships are available for $600 and include reservations for one golfer and two admission tickets for the Party on the Green after the tournament.

Major sponsorships top out at $5,000 and include space for eight golfers and include eight admission tickets for the Party on the Green.

After golfing is completed, participants will take part in cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing.

Although the tournament is less than a week away, Smith said there are still golfing and sponsorship opportunities available.

“The only way to participate in this tournament is to be a sponsor for the event,” he said. “Space is still available. If someone wants to be a sponsor for the event, we will make it work for them.”

For more information about the tournament, contact the EDC at 509-764-6579.
