Kelowna fends off Moses Lake

KELOWNA, British Columbia — Moses Lake jumped on top of the Falcons with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but Kelowna rallied to knock off Moses Lake 5-3.
With Kelowna’s win over Moses Lake, the Falcons managed to break a pair of streaks in the process. The Falcons ended their own six-game losing streak while breaking Moses Lake’s two game winning streak.
The Pirates pounced on the Falcons in the top of the fourth when Brock Gates led off the inning with a double. Gates later came around to score Moses Lake’s first run of the contest and the Pirates added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
While the Pirates took a two-run advantage over the Falcons, Kelowna rallied late.
Moses Lake starting pitcher Zane Bator controlled the tempo of the contest through the early innings before the Falcons managed to pull even at 2-2 in the seventh.
Bator surrendered just two runs on four hits in seven innings, but didn’t factor into the decision.
With the game tied, Moses Lake head coach Steve Keller turned to his bullpen. Moses Lake relief pitcher Mike Herrmann walked the first batter he faced in the the eighth and the Falcons scored three runs in the inning to take a commanding 5-2 lead into the top of the ninth.
Moses Lake pulled within 5-3 when Brady McGuire scored on a two-out double from pinch hitter Justin Cooper.
Moses Lake fell to 8-32 overall with the loss and the Pirates will take on the Falcons tonight in the rubber-match of a three-game series. The Pirates took the series opener 5-4 Tuesday night before Kelowna rallied to take game two Wednesday night.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
