Several 100 strikes of lightning hit in Boundary County during Monday night’s thunderstorm, according to Dan Myers, assistant fire management officer for the U.S. Forest Service’s Bonners Ferry Range District.
The Bureau of Land Management has equipment that displays a map where lightning hits.
“(It hit) all over Boundary County, but Priest Lake had more than we did here,” Myers said. “The whole county got hit very hard.”
A significant amount of rain prevent fires. About 1.4 inches of rain fell in the Saddle Pass area, while at least 3/10 of an inch fell everywhere else.
Smoke was detected in the Trout Creek area by campers and on Harvey Mountain. Fires were contained, but as of Wednesday, were not officially out. Fires were reported on Katka and Farnham Ridge.
