A suspected car thief, who ran from police and remained at large for three days was caught on July 23, picking huckleberries. 

At  2:15 a.m. on July 19,  Bonners Ferry Police Cpl. Don Moore said he spotted Jonathan Moffatt, 29, and Megan N. Woothtakewahbitty, 23, in a 1999 sport utility vehicle at Zip Trip on South Main Street.

According to Moore the pair were acting suspicious, prompting him to run their license plate. 

When the vehicle came back stolen, Moore started to approach the suspects and they fled on foot.

Moffatt got away, and Woothtakewahbitty was caught by Moore and taken to Boundary County Jail on $115,000 bond.  She was charged with possessing less than 3 ounces of marijuana and felony grand theft.

Moore obtained a warrant for Moffatt’s arrest. and felony grand theft with a bond of $115,000. 

According to Boundary County Sheriff Chief Deputy Rich Stephens, deputies discovered  Moffatt picking huckleberries about 4 to 5 miles up Snow Creek Road not far from where he had been camping.

Moffatt was arrested and placed in jail on $100,000 bond and  charged with resisting arrest and felony grand theft.

Woothtakewahbitty and Moffatt, both  of Oregon, have lengthy criminal histories that include burglary and drug activity in Washington and Oregon.
