The Lincoln County Amateur Radio Group plans to participate in a public demonstration of emergency communications over the weekend of June 27-28, radio hobbyist Doug Griffiths announced.

Ham radio enthusiasts from around Libby will join with thousands of others across the country to practice and demonstrate their emergency capabilities.

“Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of ham radio operators providing critical communications during unexpected emergencies in towns across America, including the California wildfires, winter storms and severe tornadoes,” Griffiths said in a press release. “When trouble is brewing, amateur radio operators are often the first to provide rescuers with critical information and communications.”

The public is invited to meet and talk with Lincoln County Amateur Radio Group members during what is referred to as “Field Day.” Communications techniques and abilities will be on display while ham operators use only emergency power supplies.

Field Day will run for 24 hours beginning at noon on Saturday, June 27 at McGrade School on Farm to Market Road in Libby. The public may attend any hour of the day or night.
