MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake High School student is receiving the chance to spend six days studying the law.

Luis Villa is participating in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and Crime Scene Investigation in Washington, D.C. this week. The program allows students to learn about law, forensics and crime scene investigation from professionals in the field, according to the organization.

Villia was nominated to attend the event after he filled out a survey indicating his interest in law, he said. His interest started with immigration issues adding he wants to help people who don’t have the money to pay for attorneys.

“I like watching the ‘FBI Files.’ How they find people when they’re just bones. How they find their names,” Villa said.

He wanted to attend the conference so he could see how difficult it would be to pursue law as a career and is looking forward to taking a tour of the Supreme Court building.

Rian Allred, who helped Villa fill out the application, described him as a great young man, who takes the things he does seriously. Allred was Villa’s soccer coach when he played on CB United.

“It’s a great reflection on the efforts he makes,” he said. “I’m really excited for him.”

Villa raised the money to attend the event by making presentations to people he knew through soccer, with his family also helping to send him there.
