MOSES LAKE — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Moses Lake is wrapping up its ninth home near Moses Lake for a single working mom with two children.

The three-bedroom home is roughly 1,056 square feet with one bathroom and is being built with help from community businesses, said Dave Hunt of Casa Bella Homes in Moses Lake.

“I’ve worked with some of these guys for 15 or 20 years,” Hunt explained. “They’re some of the top notch subs (subcontractors) in Moses Lake. They’re quite a good group of guys.”

The home will be built well and it could be completed by the end of the month, he added.

Siding and electrical work was done over the weekend.

Habitat board member Elroy Teterud said the organization is looking for a family to live in the tenth home Habitat plans to build this year.

The family must live within the Moses Lake School District boundaries.

The homes are needed because some people are living in substandard homes, he explained.

Once families move into the homes and place a down payment, they pay interest-free mortgages lasting between seven years to 30 years.

Homeowners also put in 100 hours of “sweat equity” into their homes and other Habitat structures, according to Habitat.

“The construction is going so well at the current Habitat home that we are hoping to do a second house this year,” stated Habitat President Carolyn Grant. “The Habitat house could not happen without the help and support of the community and for that we thank everyone who donates to the Festival of Trees or comes out to the work site to donate their time and skills to help build the Habitat homes.”
