MOSES LAKE — Half the tickets for the Reader’s Digest Taste of Home Cooking School on April 7 are sold.

The two-hour show features former Othello resident Kristi Larson, who will be preparing recipes on-stage for an audience expected to reach between 800 to 1,000 people at the Grant County Fairgrounds.

“If someone wants to go the show, I don’t recommend waiting to buy tickets,” said Kelly Thomas, of the Columbia Basin Herald, one of the show’s sponsors. “The reputation of the cooking school sells itself. That’s why we’ve sold the first half of the tickets.”

The star of the show will be culinary artist Larson. She holds an associate’s degree in culinary arts from Ricks College and a bachelor’s of science degree in family and consumer science education from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

She now lives in Vancouver, Wash., and presents cooking shows within the Taste of Home’s West Coast territory in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah and Idaho.

She is one of nine specialists conducting shows throughout the country.

At the one-day Moses Lake event, themed “Spring Sensation,” Larson will prepare creme brulee, fresh fruit tart and internationally themed entrees.

The entrees will include Mexican lasagna, Shanghai chicken, Greek turkey burgers, spicy Asian shrimp salad, a granola dish and salmon entree.

“It’s a really fun theme,” she said. “Everyone who comes is going to have a great time.”

Reader’s Digest published the “Taste of Home” cookbooks, which will be sold at the show.

Doors open Tuesday, April 7, at 5 p.m. for vendor demonstrations and the cooking show begins at 7 p.m.

Audience members will receive free bags with a cookbook and other items.

Tickets cost $8.40 and are available in Moses Lake at the Columbia Basin Herald, Le-Pre-Kon Harvest Foods, Furniture West, Elements, and Fae’s Books & Crafts.

Larson is the granddaughter of Faelela Mitchell of Fae’s Books & Crafts.
