SANDPOINT — A plea agreement is being proposed to resolve a clutch of felony charges pending against a former ambulance driver accused of stealing from an elderly patient.

Under the terms of the agreement, Jimmie Wayne Goodson would plead to two counts of forgery of a financial transaction card and one count of criminal possession of a transaction card.

In exchange for the pleas, two additional counts of criminal possession of a transaction card and a burglary count would be dismissed. The state would also agree not to seek additional forgery charges.

The terms of the agreement were unveiled during Goodson’s preliminary hearing in magistrate court on Wednesday. Goodson waived the hearing and is scheduled to be arraigned in 1st District Court next month.

Goodson, a former driver for the Priest River EMT Association, is accused of burglarizing a Priest River man’s home and taking his wallet and checkbook in September of last year.

The victim in the case had been leaving his door unlocked so EMTs would have easy access to the apartment in the event of an emergency, according to court records.

Priest River Police said Goodson became aware of the arrangement after responding to a prior distress call at the apartment and used the man’s debit cards to purchase goods and subscribe to adult Web sites.

Goodson, 36, was wanted on at least seven warrants for forgery, grand theft and writing insufficient-funds checks in Kootenai County, court records show. Goodson was also being sought on a Boundary County warrant for a probation violation in a 2005 drug possession, forgery and theft case.

A Priest River EMT official has said Goodson passed a background check conducted by the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
