Yarbro leads 1B to All-State win

SEATTLE — Moses Lake Christian Academy senior Riggs Yarbro wrapped up his prep basketball career in style Saturday, leading the 1B All-State team to a 114-100 overtime victory in the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) 1B-2B All-State game Saturday at Franklin High School in Seattle.

Yarbro, who was named the 1B Player of the Year by the WIBCA, lived up to title Saturday when he helped lead the 1B team to victory. Yarbro led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to record the double-double.

Yarbro wasn’t the only Moses Lake Christian Academy senior to represent the Lions in the 1B-2B All-State game, teammate Adrian Moffet was chosen to represent the 1B team by the WIBCA. Moffet added seven points in the 1B victory and dished out five assists to help his team to victory.

The 1B All-State team capitalized on solid performances from Yarbro and his teammates in the first half, and the 1B All-State team grabbed a 52-42 lead heading into the halftime.

While the 1B All-State team ran out to a 10-point advantage at the end of the first half, the 2B team stormed back in the second thanks to 2B leading scorer Mike Parris of Darrington. Parris scored 18 points for the 2B All-State team.

With Parris leading the way, the 2B All-State team stormed back in the second half. The 2B All-State team outscored the 1B All-State team 56-46 in the second half to tie the game at 98-98, sending the 1B-2B All-State game into overtime.

After playing to a 98-98 tie after 40 minutes of play, the 1B All-State team dominated the overtime period. The 1B All-State team managed to close the game on a 16-2 run to clinch the 114-100 overtime victory.

LIBERTY, Mo. — After leading the William Jewell College girls tennis team to an 11-8 record and a second-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, 2007 Moses Lake graduate Nikki Chambers was named a 2008-2009 honorable mention All-American.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Second-ranked Almira/Coulee-Hartline never trailed Saturday and the Warriors claimed the third-place trophy at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1B boys state tournament with a 59-46 win over Cusick.
