C-Falls hosts Little Guy state tourney

Columbia Falls High School will be the site of the Little Guy state wrestling tournament this weekend.

The Tournament of Champions for wrestlers in the beginner division are on the mats Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.

State tourney action for the novice division starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. The middle division state matches begin at 11:30 a.m., and the juniors take the mat at 2 p.m. Featured will be 8-person brackets in novice, and 16-team brackets for middle and junior wrestlers.

Jessie Schaeffer, one of the Columbia Falls coaches, said there will be between 40 and 45 Mat Cats in action.

Five Mat Cats won titles in the beginners' state tournament last weekend in Thompson Falls. They were Austin Green (65 pounds), Colton McPhee (70), Jake Freeman (95), Kyler Koski (130) and Darel McIntyre (170).

Winning championships at the state qualifying tournament in Thompson Falls were: novice, Kaleb Gravelin (70), Colton Sweeney (90) and Travor Hoerner (124); middle, Shonn Roberts (75), Jayce Fagerland (90), Jason Williams (120), Brendan Windauer (147) and Wade Motichka (269); and junior, Mark Hader (135) and Tyler Volkman (215).
