RONAN — A 27-year-old woman from Ronan died Monday morning from injuries sustained in a collision where her ATV hit a car on Terrace Lake Road the night before.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Sargeant, Stephanie Wieting was traveling eastbound on a Honda four-wheeler behind a Nissan Maxima at approximately 8:15 p.m. Sunday when the ATV rear-ended the car. Wieting was thrown from the vehicle and was not wearing a helmet.
The patient was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula by Life Flight. Wieting succumbed to her injuries when she was taken off life support at approximately 11 a.m. Monday. The driver of the Maxima was uninjured in the collision.
The investigator reported that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors on Wieting’s part in the crash. Sargeant explained that there did not appear to be any sudden stop or slow in speed to cause the victim to rear-end the car.
