School levy approved 1,108 to 971

Residents on Tuesday voted 1,108 to 971 to renew a maintenance and operations tax levy for Boundary County School District.
The levy approved by 53 percent of the voters will generate $865,000 for the district annually for two years. The owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 will pay $47 a year. That’s $1 less than they currently pay.
“It is nice to see the parents and patrons of our community support our kids during this difficult economic time,” said Superintendent Dr. Don Bartling said. “We are excited about the results and think that is it outstanding that the community stepped up for this educational imperative.”
Residents at polling places vote as follows:
• Bonners Ferry High School -132 yes, 17 no.
• Boundary County Middle School - 329 yes, 215 no.
• Valley View Elementary School - 341 yes, 275,no.
• Naples Elementary School - 102 yes, and 86 no.
• Evergreen Elementary School - 123 yes, 267 no.
• Mt. Hall Elementary School - 81 yes, and 111 no.
Programs that will be supported by the levy are activity directors’ salaries and benefits, extracurricular support contracts, coaches, bus drivers, lodging, meals, chaperones, contracted bus services, supplies and equipment, transportation costs, supplies, utilities and maintenance, technology, ink cartridges, textbook expense and instructional materials.
