MOSES LAKE — The seventh Annual City Wide Cleanup is Saturday in Moses Lake.
The cleanup begins at the Surf ‘N Slide Water Park parking lot on West Fourth Avenue at 8 a.m.
Volunteers are given vests, garbage bags and assigned cleanup routes at the start of the event, said organizer Bev Shuford. They need to bring their own gloves to pick up trash.
At 11:30 a.m., Michael’s on the Lake is serving a free lunch to volunteers, she said.
Afterward the business or the group who collects the most trash will receive the “Traveling Trash Can” award. The award is trophy-like metal garbage can featuring the names of those who won it in previous years.
The tradition was introduced in 2007.
The 2008 winner was Genie Industries.
The 2009 winner will get to display the trophy at their business.
If people are interested in cleaning a specific portion of the city, contact Shuford at 509-750-9282.
At 5:30 a.m. the Moses Lake Fire Department and volunteers are spraying down the sidewalks in the downtown Moses Lake business area. Volunteers are to meet at the KFC on West Third Avenue. Donated towels are needed to place the bottom of the business doors to prevent the water from seeping in.
To donate towels, contact Moses Lake Business Association Executive Director Marianne Bondi at 509-764-1745.
