Claudia Mary Blumer, 75, passed away with loving family and friends at her side on May 1, 2009, at HealthCenter Northwest in Kalispell. Claudia was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Buckman, Minn., to Anthony and Dorothea (Strack) Sand.
The family moved to Montana in 1937. Claudia attended schools in the Kalispell area and graduated from Flathead High School in 1951. During high school, she started a long career working for F.W. Woolworth Co., lasting until her retirement in 1993.
In 1955, she met and fell in love with Harold Blumer. On June 30, 1956, they wed in Kalispell and have enjoyed 52 years of married life together.
Claudia enjoyed traveling, including spending the last several winters in Arizona; as well as trips to Europe, Alaska, and the East Coast. She also enjoyed home craft projects, bowling, digging in her flowerbeds, and feeding the numerous wild birds that visited her yard.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and Rocky Mountain Rollers Good Sam Club.
She was a member of Risen Christ Catholic Church, where she assisted in numerous activities to support the congregation.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bernard; sister-in-law, Paula; two brothers-in-law, Jonathan and Clayton; and parents-in-law, John and Frances Blumer.
Surviving are her husband, Harold; brothers, Jerome and wife Nadine, Robert Sand, and Fred and wife Lanette; sisters, Shirley and husband Gene Lindgren, and Marilyn and husband, Larry Jensen. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Benjamin and wife Peggy, Eldon and wife Ellen, Larry and wife Rose, and Richard and wife Annette; also by sister-in-law, Blanche Garrett. There are also numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at Risen Christ Catholic Church in Evergreen, followed by a family and friends reception. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Home Options Hospice, 175 Commons Loop, Suite 100, Kalispell, MT 59901.
