OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies wrapped up their conference soccer schedule Monday night with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Ellensburg Bulldogs.

Othello finished the season 12-1 in Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) competition and the Huskies won the conference championship for the first time in head coach Bernie Garza’s career.

“This was the first time I have won the league title,” he said. “I have won the district title before but never the league title.”

With Othello hosting their final regular season contest Monday night, the Huskies recognized their upperclassmen on senior night.

“We had our seniors and their parent’s honored,” Garza said. “That was kind of a distraction but the guys got off to a fast start.”

Othello jumped on the Bulldogs early when CWAC leading scorer B.G. Guzman scored his 16th goal of the season just three minutes into the contest. Othello’s Jorge Campos assisted Guzman with the goal and the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the half.

The Huskies pushed their advantage to 2-0 in the 67th minute when Campos scored his 13th goal of the season to give Othello a commanding 2-0 lead late in the game. Campos is the conference’s second-leading scorer this season and Campos played well Monday, Garza said.

“Jorge Camps had a really nice game today,” he said.

The Huskies wrapped up the best season in school history Monday night and Garza said his team is ready for the postseason.

“We finished up our best season ever at 12-1,” he said. “We are looking forward to the playoffs.”

The Othello Huskies are the conference’s No. 1 seed and earned a bye into the semifinals. Othello will not play again until May 12.
