Troy tennis team plays well during busy week

Troy High School’s boys and girls tennis teams played three matches on Friday and Saturday.

In a double dual Friday at Ronan, the Trojan boys dropped a 5-1 match to Mission but rebounded to take care of the host school, 5-1.

Against Mission, Brandon Rebo and Pat Hickman won a doubles match, 9-7.

Troy swept the singles matches against Ronan with wins by Jake Higgins (8-1), Rebo (8-6), Creede Garcia (8-2) and Hickman (8-2). The doubles team of Jesse Day and Shado Garrett also won (9-8 with 7-2 tiebreaker).

On Saturday, the boys played Valley Christian to a 3-3 tie. Garcia (2-6, 6-0, 6-3) and Hickman (6-2, 6-4) posted singles victories. Day and Garrett won in doubles (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).

The Lady Trojans were undefeated in their three matches with ties against Mission (3-3) and Ronan (3-3) and a victory over Valley Christian (4-2).

On Friday against Mission, Jackie Pepiot (8-2) and Jordan Stapley (10-5) had victories in singles while Liz Smith and Kristin Parks (8-0) took care of their opponents in doubles. Against Ronan, Jessica Lyons (8-6) and Tara Duzan (8-6) were winners. Cassidy Hand and Pepiot teamed up for a doubles win (8-2).

Duzan (6-0, 6-3), Pepiot (6-0, 6-1) and Stapley (6-0, 6-1) all cruised to victories against Valley Christian at home on Saturday. The doubles team of Smith and Parks won in a marathon (1-6, 6-4, 6-2).

Clark’s Fork, Idaho, visited Troy on Wednesday but the visitors did not have enough players for an official match. The tennis team’s Nancy Prieve said no scores were kept with the athletes participating only in exhibition matches.

Troy’s girls are scheduled to play at Eureka on Thursday.

Troy Softball Takes Two From Drummond

The Drummond High School softball team rolled into Troy Saturday with high hopes of ending a long streak of being on the wrong end of the score, and for half of the first game of the doubleheader, looked like they had every chance of doing just that. However the host Trojans exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then shut down Drummond in the top of the fifth, winning 14-3. Troy kept the bats hot in the second game, plating 21 runs to end that game early as well, 21-11.
