Kalispell's offense woke up just in time.

After three scoreless innings on a chilly, windy Tuesday afternoon at the Conrad Complex, the Bravettes finally broke the ice with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning. From there, the Bravettes added five more in the fifth and six in the sixth to close out Whitefish 12-2 in a nonconference softball outing.

"It snowballed," Flathead coach Tim Severson said.

"It was nice to finally start stringing some hits together, even though we didn't do it until late (in the game)."

The 12 runs scored was a season best for the Bravettes.

"We get people on base, then we just leave them there," Severson said of his team's scoring woes to date.

"It's tough to win games when you're not driving them home."

But that was not a problem in this outing. Flathead had eight hits in the contest, all coming in the last three innings.

Flathead pitcher Meagan Hash struck out 12 Whitefish batters and gave up four hits in going the distance. The senior also had the honor of ending the contest with her single in the sixth inning, which gave Flathead a 10-run advantage and the mercy rule victory.

Whitefish, 7-11 overall, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Madison Tveidt had the big hit, a single to right that scored Nicole Schelling. Kristi Whisler, who led off with a single, scored earlier in the third.

Flathead's Megan Olszewski, who reached on an error and also moved to second on the play, stole third and then crossed home plate on another Whitefish error in the fourth inning.

From there, it was all Flathead on Senior Day.

"I was pleased with the senior leadership," Severson said.

"They were fired up tonight. They weren't going to let this one slip away."

Kassi Martin, Brenna Palmer and Alexa Mrgich sparked the FHS offense with singles in its big fifth inning. The Bravettes also capitalized on a walk and two hit batters.

Kendra Bennett and Olszewski singled in the sixth and Casey Roylston doubled in two runners.

"A couple errors, it happens," Whitefish coach Alan Compton said.

"They (Bulldogs' just got caught up in the drama a little."

Compton, in his first year as head coach at WHS, said this was an emotion game for him.

"I have a lot of history with Flathead," Compton said.

"I've been Meagan Hash's pitching coach for the last five years. So emotionally (it was difficult). My girls understood what that game meant to me. I'm happy they (Bravettes' won, but I'm disappointed we lost. It was a tough game for me."

Whitefish, 3-4 in Western A, has three regular-season games, all conference, remaining. The first one is Saturday at home with Polson.

"We must win two of the three to get into state," Compton said.

Whitefish finishes with Libby and Columbia Falls the following week.

Flathead, 0-10 in Western AA, has just a league doubleheader left, versus Glacier on Thursday. State play-in games take place the following week.
