Collins helps power Royal at sub-districts

BENTON CITY, Wash. — Royal senior Blair Collins won three events at the South Central Athletic Conference East Division sub-district track meet Friday to help give the Knights boys track team four of the school’s five individual sub-district titles.
Junior Travis Villegas was Royal’s other boys champion for the Knights, he won the 400 meters. Royal’s only girls sub-district champion also came in the 400 meters when Cierra Miller won the event.
Collins ran way with a victory in the 100 meter race and the senior leaped to victories in the long jump (21-04) and the triple jump (42-8.25) to give Royal three of its four sub-district winners.
Royal’s Ethan Tonnemaker had a pair of strong performances in the distance races, finishing third in the 1,600 meters and second in the 3,200 meters. Dylan Delay also had two top-3 outings for the Knights. Delay finished third in the 110-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles.
Royal senior Jace Christensen finished second in the shot put with a throw of 43-10.25 for the Knights.
The Royal girls team had impressive performances in the long jump event when Janae Anderson (third-14-07.00), Page Woodward (fourth-14-05.50), and Caitlin Paysse (seventh-13-05.50) each finished in the top-10.
The Knights will travel to Goldendale, Wash., Friday afternoon for the South Central Athletic Conference district meet.
