General Motors notified Scarff Auto Center in Kalispell that its franchise agreement probably will not be renewed after its October 2010 expiration.

General Manager Greg Scarff said on Tuesday that there are many options such as consolidations or other business arrangements that could be crafted over the coming weeks and months.

"It's not that big of a deal at this point," said Scarff, whose dealership sells Buick, Pontiac and GMC vehicles. "It's business as usual. We're open and quite busy."

He said they had been advised not to comment for now.

"It would be premature to comment in any kind of detail," he said. The dealership has until the end of the month to submit an appeal to General Motors.

The financially troubled automaker gave notice on Friday to 1,124 of its dealers that it would be terminating franchise agreements in October 2010. Those agreements allow the dealerships to purchase new cars from GM.

General Motors announced in April that it would phase out its Pontiac division by the end of 2010.

Scarff was one of three Montana car dealerships losing their franchise deals with General Motors.

The other two were Headwaters GMC in Three Forks and Livingston, both owned by Dave Jackson.
