Coulee City hosts annual rodeo

COULEE CITY — Some of the best cowboys throughout the area congregated in Coulee City over Memorial Day weekend to participate in the 57th annual Coulee City Last Stand Dodge Rodeo.

The Coulee City Rodeo Association’s annual event took place in Coulee City’s Ted Rice Rodeo Arena.

Cowboy Monty Johnson claimed the bull riding title, fending off Tag Elliot and Ty Jones for first place.

Eileen Plunkett slid past Judi MacDonald by a tenth of a second in the barrel racing event to earn the title.

The Coulee City Last Stand Rodeo is sanctioned by the PRCA and is part of the Columbia River Rodeo Circuit.

Legendary rodeo announcer Wayne Brooks announced the action during the competition.

Brooks is a winner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Announcer of the Year award and Brooks regularly announces at the National Rodeo Finals in Las Vegas.

LIBERTY, Mo. — After leading the William Jewell College girls tennis team to an 11-8 record and a second-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, 2007 Moses Lake graduate Nikki Chambers was named a 2008-2009 honorable mention All-American.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Second-ranked Almira/Coulee-Hartline never trailed Saturday and the Warriors claimed the third-place trophy at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1B boys state tournament with a 59-46 win over Cusick.
