Othello gets three first-team selections

COLUMBIA BASIN — Othello wrapped up their regular season Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) softball schedule with a 15-3 record and third place in the standings.

The Huskies were rewarded for their impressive season last week when three Huskies were named first-team All-CWAC by the conference’s coaches.

Othello juniors Eden Garza (outfielder) and Breanna Montemayor (utility), and sophomore Brenda Rodriguez (infielder) were first-team selections.

Othello’s second-team selections include juniors Julyssa McKertie (pitcher) and Kylee Mollotte (outfielder), freshman Alyssa Martinez (catcher), and sophomore Miranda Martinez (infielder).

Ephrata’s two second-team selections came with sophomore Skylar Lund (infielder) and senior Jordyn Peters (utility).

Ellensburg led all teams with eight all-conference selections, edging out Othello’s seven selections.

Coach of the Year: Dave Kopczynski, Ellensburg.

First team

Pitchers: Sarah McNamee, senior, Ellensburg; Monica Stout, junior, Selah.

Catchers: Sam Harris, junior, Selah; Breezy Lounsbury, senior, East Valley.

Infielders: Ariana Bauer, sophomore, Ellensburg; Brenda Rodriguez, sophomore, Othello; Jennifer Wane, senior, Selah; Brittini Gant, sophomore, Ellensburg; Lacie French, senior, Prosser.

Outfielders: Jamie Alliston, junior, Selah; Eden Garza, junior, Othello; Baylee Bunyard, junior, Selah; Kelsey Bailes, junior, Ellensburg.

Utility: Breanna Montemayor, junior, Othello.

Second team

Pitchers: Jessica Harris, junior, Ellensburg; Julyssa McKertie, junior, Othello.

Catchers: Sarah Firman, senior, Ellensburg; Alyssa Martinez, freshman, Othello.

Moses Lake grad receives award

LIBERTY, Mo. — After leading the William Jewell College girls tennis team to an 11-8 record and a second-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, 2007 Moses Lake graduate Nikki Chambers was named a 2008-2009 honorable mention All-American.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Second-ranked Almira/Coulee-Hartline never trailed Saturday and the Warriors claimed the third-place trophy at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association 1B boys state tournament with a 59-46 win over Cusick.
