EUREKA - Corbin Newbary caught three touchdown passes from Spencer Burns and ran for another to lead No. 10-ranked Florence-Carlton to a 47-8 Class B football victory over Eureka on Saturday in the first-round of postseason play.

Florence-Carlton (7-2) jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and took a 40-0 advantage into the locker room at the half.

Newbarry's TDs all came in the first half. His scoring receptions were from 45, 24 and 24 yards. His touchdown scamper covered 36 yards.

Eureka (6-3) scored in the third period on an 8-yard run by Zack Powell.

Florence-Carlton held Eureka to -17 yards rushing and outgained the Lions in total yards, 439-35.

Eureka came into the contest having lost its starting quarterback - Colin Gillard - and running back - Chad Price - in the final two games of the regular season.

Eureka also had a player injured on the opening kickoff Saturday.

"Our kids battled," Eureka coach Ed Newell said.

"A lot of young kids stepped in there. I'm really proud of our kids. Even though the outcome didn't go in our favor, our kids showed a lot of character."
