Margaret A. Peg Smith, 92

Margaret A. Peg Smith, 92, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. She was born on Aug. 10, 1917, to local railroad conductor William Steven and Hermine (Merker) Forhan. She was one of nine children. In 1939, she met Art Smith. Art was a salesman for a local automotive supply store, the Kalispell Motor Supply. They were married on Dec. 30, 1939. By October of the following year, they welcomed their first daughter, Colleen. Kathleen, Sally, Jean Marie, Judy and Jennie completed their family. In 1959, Art, then general manager of the Motor Supply, died of cancer and she was left alone to raise her family. She was proud that all of her girls finished college. She was also a well-known local quilter, making and quilting over 100 quilts. She was also a first-place winner in several local and state quilt contests. She is survived by four of her daughters, Colleen McCabe and husband, Jim, of Helena, Kathleen McLaen and husband, Don, of Albuquerque, N.M., Judy McKenzie of Eugene, Ore., and Jen Moore of Kalispell; 11 grandchildren, Bill, Pat, Mike, Kathy, Annie, Dave, Scot, Jinny, Shawn, Rachel and Arthur; and one brother, Rudy Forhan, of Tuscon, Ariz. She waited 50 years to be with her one true love. Tell daddy 57, mom. Love you. Funeral services for Peg will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow services at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Peg s family. Climate change awards announced

Climate Smart Glacier Country announced its Climate Smart Champions during a ceremony at the Earth Day celebration April 21 in Whitefish. Awards were presented to businesses, youth and an individual who are leaders in building local solutions to climate change challenges.
