PASCO, Wash. — After knocking off Eisenhower in a shootout Saturday in Yakima, Wash., the Moses Lake Chiefs girls soccer team advanced to the second round of the district tournament Tuesday in Pasco, Wash.

The Chiefs squared off with the Bulldogs at Edgar Brown Stadium Tuesday, but Moses Lake was unable to knock off hosting Pasco as the fell 3-1.

Despite the loss, Moses Lake head coach Ric Char said his team is playing well.

“I think they wanted it,” he said. “We are peaking. I couldn’t ask for more from their effort.”

Pasco took an early lead when they found the back of the net just 7:42 into the contest.

While the Bulldogs led early, Moses Lake answered soon after.

Moses Lake junior Sydney Kimbro scored the equalizer for the Chiefs less than three minutes later and Char said he was proud of the way his team responded.

“We worked on a three-minute drill to score three minutes after a team scores,” he said. “They have hope and they won’t quit.”

Although Moses Lake pulled even 10 minutes into the contest, Pasco found the back of the net twice late and the Chiefs were unable to recover.

Despite falling behind, Char said he was proud of his team’s fight.

“Even when it was 2-1 they never quit,” he said. “They ran the ball up to midfield and tried to get a goal back. It is a testament to their character.”

While Moses Lake fell Tuesday night to Pasco, the Chiefs will travel to Lampson Stadium in Kennewick, Wash., Saturday where they will take on the Kamiakin Braves in the first round of the regional tournament.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
