MOSES LAKE — Knolls Vista Elementary second and third grade students learned about the five branches of military in observance of Veterans Day.

Sgt. Justin Morris, of the Army National Guard, spoke to the students about his service and answered questions.  He said Americans are lucky to have the freedom to acknowledge and observe our veterans’ efforts.

Morris drove a Hummer to the presentation. Students were invited to go inside the vehicle.

“I learned a lot; even that it used to be called Armistice Day,” said third-grader, Sabrina Trango.

Morris gave students posters to take home.

The Veteran’s Day Proclamation from President Barack Obama was read in several classrooms.

It reads: “Our country is forever indebted to our veterans for their quiet courage and exemplary service. We also remember and honor those who laid down their lives in freedom’s defense.  These brave men and women made their ultimate sacrifice for our benefit.”

“On Veteran’s Day we remember these heroes for their valor, their loyalty, and their dedication,” said principal Mike Riggs. “And we thank the armed forces that protect our nation, state, county, and city.”
