Letter: Soldiers, families deserve recognition

Dear Editor:

November 11th was Veterans Day. It is my hope, and prayer that the people of Libby and the nation as a whole paid well-deserved honor to our military and thought of the selfless sacrifices they are making on our behalf.

I went to the funeral of a local fallen hero, Staff Sgt. 1st Class J.R. Stright, and it was a very humbling experience. This young soldier was in Special Ops, in a unit called "Night Stalkers." While you and I sleep peacefully at night, they are carrying out military maneuvers and missions. His No. 160 Company attended his funeral, and it was an honor to shake their hands and thank them for their service.

Our military volunteer to serve and protect those of us who go about our daily lives so carefree and pleasant in safety and security. Their families also make a voluntary sacrifice that often goes unrecognized and unappreciated.

I hope people took a few moments to remember the value of the freedoms we have because of their patriotism and dedication to their country. When you see them … thank them. When you don't, pray for them.
