SANDPOINT — A Bayview man charged with drunken driving following a crash on U.S. Highway 95 is being sought for arrest.
Karl Lawrence Hengeveld is accused of violating the terms of his conditional release by consuming alcohol, according to court documents.
A $25,000 warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Hengeveld was charged following an Oct. 21 collision at the Sagle Road intersection. Witnesses told Idaho State Police Hengeveld was driving southbound and using the center turn lane as a passing lane.
The pickup truck Hengeveld was driving rear-ended a Jeep that was stopped in the turn lane and waiting for traffic to clear, an Idaho State Police report said. A couple in the vehicle were not seriously injured, the report said.
Hengeveld’s blood alcohol was determined to be 0.22, almost three times the legal limit of 0.08. He was also charged with driving without privileges, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, in addition to operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Hengeveld was released on a reduced bail of $10,000 and ordered to consume no alcohol, court records indicate. He was further ordered to submit to ethyl glucuronide testing twice a week to monitor his compliance with that condition of his release.
Also known as EtG, ethyl glucuronide is a metabolite formed in the body following the ingestion of alcohol.
Court documents indicate that Hengeveld tested positive for the metabolite earlier this month.
Hengeveld’s jury trial on the four misdemeanors is set for Dec. 17 in magistrate court.
Hengeveld waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the felony unauthorized use of a vehicle charge and is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 7 in 1st District Court.
