The Libby High School speech and drama program had one of its biggest weekends of the year by hosting its own invitational this past Saturday.

The Loggers’ Jason Schikora played a role in two first-place showings. Schikora took the top spot in the Class A Humorous Solo category and along with Paige Bothman, also won the Humorous Duo competition.

Libby nabbed a third first-place finish with Miranda Raab and Jolee Holder winning the Serious Duo category.

Humorous Duo turned out to be the team’s biggest category in terms of points scored. Besides Schikora and Bothman, other local students placing in that event were Dustina Deans and Tiffany Moreau (fourth), and Justin Lauer and Eli Miller (seventh).

John Vinion finished runner-up in the Pantomime category. Mike Wise placed third in Humorous Solo. And Justin Lauer took fourth in Serious Solo.

In the speech and debate portion of the tournament, Libby’s Elizabeth Rodgers placed eighth in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate category.

In the team races, Columbia Falls won speech and debate with 96 points to outdistance Whitefish and Polson in Class A. Flathead took Class AA honors and Eureka was tops in Class B.

Polson took first in the Class A drama competition with 80 points, followed by Ronan (78) and Libby (74). Eureka took the Class B drama title.

The Loggers compete next this weekend at a two-day tournament in Hamilton. The team then competes in Ronan and Kalispell in December and then Columbia Falls and Bigfork in January before heading to divisionals at Whitefish. This year’s state tournament will be Jan. 29-30 in Corvallis.
