Bowlers team up to give back

RONAN — Every Wednesday and Thursday, bowling leagues at Lucky Strike Lanes in Ronan compete against each other for high scores.
The last four weeks were different.
The Lucky Ladies on Wednesdays and the Lady Strikers on Thursdays teamed up to collect 336 pounds of food that was donated to the Bread Basket on Nov. 13.
Normally, the two leagues hold a holiday gift exchange during the season, but this year decided to donate food instead.
“We thought, maybe to give to the community this year instead of ourselves,” bowler Jennifer Davis said.
It wasn’t hard to rally support for the idea.
“Everybody was so willing and seemed to bring in a lot of food,” she said. “Some came in with five bags full of groceries.”
Bread Basket chairman Sherri McDonald said the donation is the largest in November. The food bank has seen more organizations give in the last couple months. The bowling league’s donation will feed “quite a few families,” she said. It was wonderful.”
