EPHRATA —  Ephrata resident Britney Ratigan is competing in a volleyball all-star event Dec. 5.

It takes place at Big Bend Community College from noon to 3 p.m.  It is in Big Bend’s DeVries Activity Center, located at 7662 Chanute Street.

The event is part of the 2009 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Ratigan is a 2008 graduate of Ephrata High School. After graduating, she moved to Walla Walla to attend Walla Walla Community College and joined the volleyball team.

Ratigan decided that she would rather attend Big Bend and play volleyball after coming back to Ephrata for the summer.

“Whether it is playing or coaching, I love being on the court,” Ratigan stated.

Volleyball was always a big part of Ratigan’s life. She was accustomed to being on the court from a young age, whether she was watching her mother, Jenny Ratigan, coach or playing herself.

When Britney isn’t playing volleyball for Big Bend she is the assistant coach for the local Kamali’I Volleyball Club.

“Britney has proved to be a wonderful addition to our BBCC team for 2009,” stated volleyball coach Mike De Hoog. “This is a great opportunity for her and I couldn’t be happier for her. She truly deserves this recognition for her hard work and talent on the court.”

There will be six matches featuring sophomore all-stars from each of the four regions.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Children under 10 get in free.

For more information, call Mike De Hoog at 509-793-2231.
