Kiley McConnell was simply too hot to handle on a chilly weekend at the Flatfish Invitational golf tournament.

The Whitefish junior was a wire-to-wire winner in this regular-season 36-hole finale, posting steady rounds of 80-81-161 for a convincing nine-shot victory over Katie Fish, 85-85-170, of C.M. Russell.

McConnell held a tight one-shot lead on teammate BreAnna Cameron after Friday's 18 holes at Whitefish Lake Golf Course, but blew the field away over the final 18 at Buffalo Hill Golf Club with her 7-over par round.

"It was pretty windy today, but it was all right," McConnell said.

"The putting was difficult, they just aerated the greens.

"I was really happy with it, actually," she said of her 81.

"Today I was able to keep my drives in bounds. My putting was pretty consistent, which was pretty good."

McConnell had just one birdie on the last day, on the par 5 381-yard 15th hole. She hit into trouble just once, the hazard on No. 11.

"I felt I played pretty good," she said.

"It was a good round for me."

Cameron, 81-90-171, finished third, Karli Aurich, 87-85-172 of Glacier was fourth and Mari Wolverton, 91-86-177, of Missoula Sentinel was fifth.

"She played really well," Glacier coach Rob Logsdon said of Aurich.

"She had a couple bad holes today, otherwise she would have jumped up a few more spots."

Whitefish, which had a 14-shot lead in the team competition Friday, held on to win by 11 strokes over CMR, 716-727.

Glacier, with five girls all breaking 100 on the same day for the first time this season, finished third with a 753 total.

Glacier's Elsie Satterfield, 91-91-182, also cracked the top 10, placing eighth overall.

In boys play at Whitefish Lake Golf Course, it was all Glacier. Led by Grahm Schmaltz, the Wolfpack won the team title with a 598 total.

Whitefish was second, 626, and Missoul Hellgate third, 646.

Schmaltz, like McConnell, led both days, carding a 68-74-142 total.

Colin Gunstream, 75-74-149, of Hellgate and Reed Platke, 69-80-149, of Whitefish tied for third.

McConnell's performance at this event will make her one of the favorites for state medalist honors next week at Village Greens Golf Course.

"I've been able to put some of my better scores out there later (in the season)," she said.

McConnell said the weather had little affect on her game.

"It was pretty cold," she said.

"All the girls had hand warmers.

"I just try to stay confident, get through the cold weather and have a decent round," she continued.

"It was a little harder, it was the first cold weather we played in (this fall). I just try to not let it bother me and focus on my swing. Today it (swing) felt pretty good."
