ST. IGNATIUS — The Mission football team played well in the first half before losing to Three Forks 12-42 last Friday.

The Wolves scored first after recovering a low Bulldog snap. Sophomore Lucas Cotton blocked the extra point with his arm to keep the score 6-0.

Mission got the ball back and started to drive toward the endzone. Senior Justin Evans ran the ball for a first down before senior wide receiver Jorren Gies caught a 50-yard passfor a touchdown to tie the game.

In the second quarter, senior Jake Durglo caught a 16-yard pass from Evans and it took four defenders to take him down. Junior running back Dakota Matt had a nine-yard run before a holding penalty took away yards. The Wolves were offsides and the Bulldogs gained five yards for first and 18. Matt took the ball again for 11 yards before senior running back Travis Dumont ran for eight yards and a first down. Evans ran for 12 yards before a fumble turned the ball over to the Wolves.

“We play hard but just do dumb things,” head coach Peter Hamilton said.

The Wolves worked their way to the 15-yard line but the Bulldog defense stopped them from scoring and kept the score 6-6 at the half.

In the second half, the Wolves turned up the intensity, scoring 22 points in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs started a drive when Durglo caught a pass and brought Mission to the 36-yard line before the Wolves caught an interception on the next play.

With the score 6-35, Mission recovered a Three Forks’ fumble. Durglo caught a pass to put the ball at first and goal. Evans ran the ball in for a touchdown and the last Bulldogs’ score.

“We only play one half of football,” Hamilton said. “I don’t understand. We’ve got a lot of work to get done still. If we still want to do good this season, we’ll fix it.”

Mission travels to Eureka tomorrow night.

“We’ve got to move in the right direction,” Hamilton said. “Right now, we’re moving backwards, the wrong direction. Kids are willing, so hopefully this week in practice we’ll get at it and work hard.”
