WILSON CREEK — The Wilson Creek Devils moved into sole possession of first place in the North Central Washington 1B volleyball conference Thursday night with an important five-game victory over second place Thorp.

Wilson Creek and Thorp entered Thursday night’s matchup tied for first place.

The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 victory in game one.

While Wilson Creek took the early advantage at home, Thorp persevered.

The Tigers rallied for a 25-18 win in game two and a 25-22 win in game three to turn the tables on Wilson Creek.

With Wilson Creek staring down a 2-1 deficit at home, the Devils rolled over the Tigers for a 25-12 victory in game four to pull even at 2-2.

Wilson Creek head coach Mike Ottis said Thursday night’s contest was intense.

“It was a good match overall,” he said. “There were ups and downs for both teams.”

After Wilson Creek rallied for a victory in game four, the Devils took control of the contest with a close 15-13 victory in game five.

Wilson Creek senior Ksenje Fredere had a solid night at the net with 18 kills and Ottis said she performed well defensively also.

“Ksenje Fredere had a great defensive night,” he said. Fredere finished with five blocks.

Holly Wilson also helped lead the Devils to victory. She finished with 10 kills, four blocks and eight aces. Jackie Treat provided a game-high 41 assists for Wilson Creek.

After the victory, Ottis said it was important to get the win at home.

“The bottom line is, it is nice to come out with a win in that particular type of match,” he said.

Royal 3, Warden 0

ROYAL — The Warden Cougars couldn’t maintain the momentum from their first South Central Athletic Conference victory Tuesday as they fell to rival Royal in three games Thursday night.

Royal capitalized on a superior front court to knock off the Cougars 25-7, 25-10, and 25-20, Warden head coach Jeff Kottong said.

“They played really well and we didn’t have the manpower,” he said. “When it gets down to the bottom line, we didn’t match up well with them.”

Kacey Kisler had five kills and 18 digs, Iris Rodriguez had a pair of kills and a pair of blocks.

Warden’s Lindsay Cole had one ace and seven assists for the Cougars in the loss.
