WHITEFISH - Meredith Reed dreamt the night before Saturday's Class A playoff soccer match with Frenchtown at Smith Field that she picked up a yellow card.

"I didn't get the yellow," she said happily.

But what the Whitefish senior captain did get was a hat trick in leading Whitefish to a 4-0 victory.

Reed put the Bulldogs on the board with a low shot under the keeper at 20 minutes.

She scored again at 46 minutes with a high shot out of the keeper's reach that grazed the bottom of the crossbar.

Then she finished her scoring barrage with a rocket shot at 72 minutes into the high corner of the net.

Reed came into the match having scored only two goals on the season.

"I came here for warm-ups and I was ready to go," she said.

"I was hungry for it. I was ready to make a statement in my last game on this field."

She scored her first and third goals with her right foot. The second goal was off her left.

"She has a great foot," Whitefish coach Erin Morrison said.

"She really stepped up, as a captain and as a senior. I said to her: 'Play with no regrets.'"

Reed didn't.

The one regret Morrison might have is why she didn't have Reed play the outside mid position earlier in the season. Reed was playing there for the first time against Frenchtown.

"I don't know why I haven't done that sooner," Morrison said.

"I'm kicking myself for that one."

Whitefish dominated from start to finish. The Bulldogs peppered the Frenchtown goal with 30 shots, while the Broncs could muster just two.

Both halves were played in front of the Frenchtown goal.

Michela Millette scored at 38:00 to put Whitefish on top 2-0 at the half. Assisting on that goal was Natalie Gayner.

Megan Danczyk assisted on two of Reed's goals.

"We had really good passing today," Morrison said. "We moved the ball. We kept the pace. I thought we capitalized on our opportunities."

Both teams struggled with illness. Whitefish had five players battling a bug and Frenchtown three.

"I really want to commend Jordan Carper," Morrison said.

"She played well in the center. She picks up the intensity. The other girls see that and get pumped up."

Whitefish (9-3-1) advance to the next round on Saturday and will play at Billings Central (12-0-0), a 5-0 winner over Stevensville.

Frenchtown (6-6-0) was competing in the postseason for the first time. The Broncs are in the third year with their soccer program.

"We just didn't come to play, Frenchtown coach Erika Bidlake said.

"This season was a great season for us. I wish they could have showcased it a little better today to show their full potential."
