CB United 97 finishes second

WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Columbia Basin (CB) United 97 boys U-12 soccer team rallied from a first-game loss to the Sandpoint Strikers to qualify for the finals of the U-12 Golf Division 2009 Wenatchee Apple Cup championship tournament held Oct. 9 through Oct. 11 in Wenatchee, Wash.

The CB United 97 team was one of more than 120 youth soccer teams competing throughout the tournament’s divisions, looking to bring home an Apple Cup trophy.

The CB United 97 team fell in their opening-round contest to the eventual division champion Sandpoint Strikers of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Although CB United 97 lost their tournament opener, they rallied for back-to-back wins over the Cashmere Bulldogs of Cashmere, Wash., and the Nortac Sparta 97 of Tacoma, Wash., to qualify for the division championship. Nortac Sparta 97 was undefeated prior to the loss to CB United 97.

CB United 97 looked capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities, including a shot off the post, to pull even after falling behind 1-0. CB United 97 tried to force overtime, but the Strikers held on to claim the championship.
