The W.F. Morrison Elementary School gym in Troy will be filled with the sounds, sights and fun of Halloween from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The event will include carnival games, a haunted house, a cake walk, costume contests, a variety of foods and, of course, hot chocolate to warm trick-or-treaters from inside out.

The New Horizons after-school program and the Powder Hounds school ski club have teamed up to sponsor the annual event to raise funds for weekend ski trips to the Schweitzer Mountain ski slopes for both Morrison and high school students.

“In years past the Troy PTA has helped sponsor the event and with the schools no longer having a PTA we felt it was important to keep the tradition alive “ said Morrison principal Lance Pearson. “We also would like to expand our weekend ski trips for Morrison students to the high-school students. Every weekend during the winter, if we have the funding, we could take 40-50 Morrison students skiing and we feel the same should be offered to our high-school students.”

The Halloween Carnival will be part of the “Lights On After-School” After-School Alliance activities to raise community awareness of the need to offer students both fun and educational activities between 3:30 and 6 p.m. on weekdays, as well as on weekend evenings.

All proceeds from ticket sales to the carnival games, the food offered and the haunted house will go towards student weekend ski trips.

“We need community help to make this work,” said Ralph Stever, Troy’s after-school program director. “We need cake mixes/frostings for the cakes, baked cakes or goodies for the cake walk, aluminum cake pans, Halloween decorations for the gym, prizes for the costume contest and volunteers for the kitchen and activities.”
