Down 14-0 eight minutes into Friday’s season finale against Lethbridge, the Libby High School football team needed to turn things around quick before the game got out of hand.

Playing on a field that had become slick from rainfall, the Loggers scored 40 unanswered points and shutout the Alberta school the rest of the way.

Micah Germany, making his first start at quarterback in place of the injured Kelly May, completed 20-of-33 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Germany put an exclamation point on the season with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth by scoring himself on a short run.

Following a disappointing season for a young lineup trying to compete in the talent-heavy Northwestern A, Libby found itself playing only for pride on its final weekend. Lethbridge’s Tomas Truba and Dylan Willoughby tried to put a dent in those plans by scoring TDs in the first quarter.

Truba scored on a 20-yard run and Willoughby reached the end zone on a 33-yard pass from Colton Garner.

The Loggers got their offense into the end zone with 22 seconds left in the opening quarter. Germany hooked up with Kody Berget on a 25-yard TD pass. In the second quarter, Libby added two more TDs to take a 20-14 lead in at the break.

First, Libby senior Kyle Sweedman recovered a Lethbridge fumble in the end zone and with a Kaila Forster extra point, the game was tied. Then with the clock winding down late in the half, Justin Thrailkill scored on a three-yard run.

Germany added two more TD passes in the second half as the Loggers pulled away. The 5-foot-8 sophomore connected with T.J. Benson on a TD pass that covered 33 yards and with Robin Kyes on a two-yard TD pass. In the fourth, Germany scored on a three-yard run.

Libby rolled up 380 yards of total offense against the Lethbridge D. Benson caught seven balls for 144 yards, an average of 20.6 yards per catch. Berget and Alex Cislo each had four receptions for 60 and 49 yards, respectively.

Out of the backfield, Germany rushed for 50 yards on 13 carries.

Forster wrapped up an impressive season at kicker and it appears that she has a state record to her credit. According to records listed on the Montana High School Association website, Forster broke the state standard for consecutive extra points. Forster, senior, connected on 20 straight extra points after missing her first of the season. The MHSA shows the previous record as 15 straight by Bob Kimball of Chester.

Forster’s streak ended following Libby’s third touchdown when Lethbridge blocked the attempt.

The Loggers finish the season with an overall record of 2-7.
