Othello takes third

QUINCY — The Othello Lady Huskies wrapped up third place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference North Division Thursday night with a four-game victory over the hosting Quincy Lady Jackrabbits.
Othello took game one on the road 25-13 before taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 victory in game two.
The Lady Jackrabbits stormed back for a 25-19 victory in game three.
Although Quincy narrowed the gap, Othello took game four with a 25-18 victory to wrap up the division’s third seed heading into the district tournament next week.
Othello head coach Dean Spurbeck said his team performed well.
“I think they played pretty well,” he said. “Overall, I think we worked on some stuff that we needed to work on.”
Senior Kylee Mollotte led the Lady Huskies with 24 kills and 16 digs. She also had five aces in the win. Jody Walker had 10 kills, nine digs and two aces, and Valerie Garza had 30 assists.
Othello will host the Wapato Wolves Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Central Washington Athletic Conference district tournament.
Wilson Creek 3, Columbia Basin Secondary School 0
WILSON CREEK — The Wilson Creek Devils claimed the North Central Washington 1B volleyball regular season championship Thursday night with a three-game sweep of the visiting Columbia Basin Secondary School.
Wilson Creek controlled the tempo of the contest with a 25-8 victory in game one and the Devils never looked back.
Senior Ksenje Fredere led the way with 14 kills and five aces. Jackie Treat had 38 assists and Holly Wilson had 10 kills and two blocks.
Wilson Creek is the No. 1 seed heading into next week’s district tournament.

TACOMA, Wash. —— Ephrata senior Wes Chamberlain wrapped up his high school career at the 2A state track meet in Tacoma, Wash., over the weekend by capturing his third state championship in the pole vault — breaking his own state record in the process.
