LAUREL - Katie Day's goal at 33 minutes broke a tie, lifting Laurel to a 2-1 victory over Bigfork on Friday in a Class A nonconference soccer match.

Bigfork's Lena Olson, on an assist by Quinci Paine, tied the game at 31 minutes.

Laurel scored first, 22:30, on a goal by Kelcie Wood.

Laurel enjoyed a big edge in shots on goal, 24-12.

The first goal was scored off a free kick by Valentine, which was headed into the goal by a Belgrade player.

Jaime Gilden, who had three goals, headed in two off corner kicks by Valentine. She assisted on the other one as well.

Valentine also scored once.

"It was a well matched game, hard fought," Libby coach Charlie Webster said.

"Belgrade hung in there the whole time."
