COLUMBIA FALLS - Jaime Gilden scored two goals and assisted on another as Libby topped Columbia Falls, 2-2 overall and 0-1 league, 4-2 in Northern A girls soccer play on Saturday.

Anna Valentine, off a Gilden corner kick, gave Libby the early lead six minutes into play.

Gilden scored at 27 and 70 minutes. Libby's other score was an own goal off a corner kick.

Beanna Hopper and Elena Potter accounted for Columbia Falls' goals. Potter's was on a corner kick.

"We started out great," Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said, "but we still just aren't playing a whole game. I thought we played pretty well in the second half."

WHITEFISH - Whitefish scored early, 10 minutes into the match on a header by Natalie Gayner, but two second-half goals by Hamilton forced the tie in nonconference play.

Karissa DeMarco had the other goal for Whitefish, 15 minutes into the second half.

"I was happy with the set plays," Whitefish coach Erin Morrison said. "We were finishing.

"We're both a lot alike," she said of Whitefish and Hamilton. "It was a good team matchup."

Whitefish is now 2-1-2 overall.

Glacier senior Maddey Frey continued her weekend scoring streak with another pair of goals to lead Glacier to a Western AA conference home victory.

Frey, who scored twice the day before against Helena High, booted a direct kick past Helena's goalie early in the game for her first score. Later, Frey took a pass from Skyler St. Onge and scored again to give Glacier, 3-1-0, a 2-0 lead. St. Onge would later score on a corner kick.

"Their confidence level has risen a lot," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said. "They're playing sharp. They played under some pressure and they didn't let it affect them."

For the second day in a row, the Bravettes, 1-1-2, earned a Western AA tie. Flathead goal keeper Karli Kusler made six saves and earned her second shutout in as many days at home.

"We definitely played better than we did yesterday. We were able to build up to the offense real well, we just had a hard time finishing today," Flathead coach Scott Warnell said. "They left everything on the field, we just couldn't get the ball in the goal."

Warnell credited sophomore Megan Gardner with anchoring the defense and giving Kusler protection.

Glacier senior Bart Tobiason took a throw in pass from Josiah Bumgarner and scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the Western AA home match.

"It caused a heart attack for the coaches, but it was a good kind of heart attack," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said. "It's really a big win for the program. It was really nice to finally beat them."

Sophomore Joe Siderius scored the game's first goal off a pass from Josh Neiman in the first half. Neiman later assisted Joey Snyder, who scored midway through the second to give Glacier, 3-1, a 2-0 lead.

Helena High scored two quick goals at the end of the first half and held off the Braves, 0-4-0, in Western AA conference play at home.

"Again they played as hard as they could," Flathead coach Chris Putzler said. "We just weren't real crisp. We did a lot of kick ball today."

Jordan Remington had nine saves for the Braves.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Four different Libby players scored goals and Lewis Brossman stopped four shots on goal as the Loggers posted a shutout in Northern A play.

Columbia Falls, 0-4 overall and 0-2 league, was outshot on goal 20-4.

Wildcat goalie Jacob Calderwood had 15 saves.

"He (Calderwood) did a good job," Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said.

"He didn't have much help in front of him. We just have to try to keep getting better."

On Friday, Foothills Community Christian School nipped SCS, 2-3-2 overall and 1-0 league, 4-3.

Ryan Thompson and Jeremy Curtis accounted for the scoring versus Helena. Thompson had two goals in the Foothills match. Brenton Hemp scored the other goal.
