MISSOULA - Senior Joaquin Calderon scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of play to lead the Flathead Braves boys soccer team to their first victory of the season, a 1-0 road win against Western AA foe Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday.
Calderon gathered the ball in front of the net and broke the 0-0 tie with roughly two minutes left to play and goalie Jordan Remington preserved the shutout for Flathead, 1-4-0.
"It was a real back and forth game," Flathead coach Chris Putzler said. "Our boys fought really hard."
Remington finished with 13 saves in the game.
"The boys are really excited," Putzler said. "They've been working hard and everyone's been just busting their tails."

MISSOULA - Glacier senior forwards Ron Howell and Josh Neiman each scored a goal to lead the second-place Wolfpack past Missoula Big Sky in Western AA action.
Glacier led early after Howell scored in the opening five minutes. Later in the second, Neiman put the Wolfpack up 2-0 off an assist from Ian Cavigli before Big Sky attempted the comeback.
"It was nice to get the lead early," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said. "We're finding there's no easy game in the Western Conference. Big Sky has yet to win a game but they came out and played like a team that was determined to give everything it could. We felt like that was a hard-earned victory."

"(Big Sky) plays a fast game. Our defense played outstanding, but they had one of those balls come through and we had a little mix up in our communication there," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said.
"Just one of those things that happens sometimes. It was just one of those days."
