Libby tops Whitefish; Eureka tips Bigfork in volleyball

WHITEFISH - Jackie Mee had 14 kills and four aces to help Libby drop Whitefish 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 on Thursday in Northwestern A volleyball action.
Libby improves to 1-0 in league, while Whitefish slips to 1-2.
"Libby is a great ballclub," Whitefish coach Jackie Fuller said.
"They did a nice job offensively and defensively. They controlled the tempo of the match. We have to focus in on defense … that will help us."
Kaitlyn Wehrli had six kills and 20 digs for Whitefish.
Libby and Whitefish will play in the Bonners Ferry, Idaho, tournament on Saturday.

BIGFORK - Eureka battled back from a tough loss in the first game to topple Bigfork 25-27, 25-11, 26-24, 18-25, 15-12 in a District 7B match.
Tayler Holder paced Eureka's hitting with 20 kills. Emily Hardman had 27 for Bigfork and Mallery Knoll added seven.
"Both teams have about the same size, same number of hitters," Bigfork coach Tammi McDaniel said.
"It becomes a digging match."
Eureka led in that category, 89-62. Carly Hammond had 24 for Eureka and Kelly Deaton 25 for Bigfork.
"Emily Hardman probably had her best number in kills," McDaniel said.
"Kelly Deaton came alive in the back row, doing her job."
Bigfork, 2-1 league and 3-2 overall, hosts St. Ignatius next Thursday. Eureka plays at Thompson Falls on Saturday.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Columbia Falls won the statistical battle in four of the five categories, but Browning pulled off a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 nonconference Class A victory.
Browning had more kills than Columbia Falls, 26-24, but Columbia Falls finished with more blocks, 5-2, assists, 21-18, digs, 52-40, and aces, 11-8.
Kayla DeWit had 11 blocks for the Wildkats. Cassidee Skiles finished with 21 assists and four aces.
Columbia Falls, 1-2 overall, travels to Polson on Saturday.

RONAN - Breanne Kelley had 12 kills, three blocks and four aces to push Polson past Ronan 25-9, 25-14, 25-13 in a Northwestern A rivalry match.
Kayla Duford led Polson in aces, five, and in assists, 24.
Polson hosts Columbia Falls on Saturday.
