MOSES LAKE— Residents can learn more about financial and physical health by attending the Columbia Basin Herald’s Senior and Baby Boomer Wellness Expo.

“It is a really good opportunity to see a majority of the health center entities in one spot,” said organizer Janine Zietlow. “It is targeted toward the seniors and baby boomer group, but anyone can benefit from it.”

The expo is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the Moses Lake Event Center, which used to be the Moses Lake Convention Center. It is the seventh year the Columbia Basin Herald hosted a wellness expo.

“It is important to be financially and physically fit as you are going through your senior years,” Zietlow said.

The event features informational booths from local businesses, music played by a pianist and food and drinks from fraternal clubs.

“It brings awareness of what is available to the community,” Zietlow said. “People who are taking care of family members will be aware of different options they have.”

Participating businesses include Coldwell Bank, Mortgage Mentors, Aging and Adult Home Care, Trinity Chiropractic, Samaritan Healthcare, Freedom Homes, Moses Lake Community Health Center, Sandridge Home Care, Carver Funeral and Monroe House.

Walgreens Drug Stores in Moses Lake is offering flu shots.

“The expo will have several lecturers giving people advice on insurance practices and ways to stay physically healthy,” Zietlow said. “There will also be a question and answer session.”

The term “Baby Boomers” describes people born during the Post-World War II baby boom between 1946 and 1960. They are between the ages of 46 and 64 today, according to special sections editor Joel Martin.

The large size of boomers is causing the number of senior citizens to increase, said Zietlow. 

“This means there will be an increase of families having to take on the care of older relatives,” Zietlow said. “They should prepare by knowing what is available to them in terms of care.”

The Moses Lake Event Center is located at 1475 East Nelson Road.
