Cardinals salvage split with Snow

SOFTBALL

EPHRIAM, Utah - North Idaho rallied in the final three innings of the second game on Friday to split a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Snow Badgers at Badger Field.

Snow's Heather Gardner hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning of an 8-0 win. Heather Black had seven strikeouts for the Bruins (9-20, 6-15 SWAC), allowing one hit over five innings.

Lauren Maloney had four hits and five RBIs, including a grand slam in the top of the sixth as the Cardinals outscored the Bruins 8-4 in the final three innings to earn a 15-13 win in nine innings.

North Idaho (22-20, 15-15) had a six-run top of the seventh inning to rally from a 9-7 deficit, keyed by a two-run double from Shelby Gonzales.

NIC and Snow play another doubleheader today at noon.

Sasquatch take 29-23 lead

over Cardinals at shootout

HAYDEN - Community Colleges of Spokane took a 29-23 lead over North Idaho College after Day 1 of the Cardinal-Bigfoot Shootout at Avondale Golf Course.

"We did something with a little different format today," North Idaho coach Randy Boswell said. "The kids enjoyed it, but the weather wasn't that great."

Ben Johnson shot a 74-71 for North Idaho. Former Coeur d'Alene Viking Taylor Porter a 72-67 for CC Spokane.

The Bigfoot-Cardinal Shootout continues today at the Links Golf Course in Post Falls starting at 10 a.m.
