Kids around Plains gathered to hop down the bunny trail at Fred Young Park on Easter Sunday for the annual Easter egg hunt.

The Easter egg hunt kicked off at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon and by 12:55 p.m. groups of kids were gathered at the starting line looking eager and ready to hunt for some plastic Easter eggs.  A few bright-eyed youngsters tried to throw some of their eggs in the basket before the starting call was announced to the amusement of the members of Plains Lions Club, who hosted the event.

The Easter egg hunt has been a long standing tradition for the Plains Lions Club as they have put on the event for over 50 years, rain or shine.

This year the park was split into four separate sections, one egg hunt for ages one to two, three to four, five to six and seven to eight.  The scavenger hunts for each age group only last mere minutes as the second a Lions’ Club member yelled “start” the kids took off, baskets in hand and parents trailing behind.

A lucky kid from each age group found the prize egg, typically hidden in shrubbery or bushes.  The four children who discovered the hidden prize egg went home with a large Easter baskets supplied by the Lions Club.

The other participants went home with their own bag of candy.

“It’s just one of those things the Lions Club does for the community like the hot dog roast and the lights around Main Street. It’s just something to do for the kids,” said Lion’s Club President Mike Hashisaki.

New to the Easter egg hunt this year was Plains high school senior Robert Hicks who was dressed up as the Easter bunny and handed out candy donated by Garden Gift and Floral to all of the local children.
